Multi-Engine · Diamond DA42-VI

Two engines.
No drama.

Every multi-engine course at CRAFT runs in the Diamond DA42-VI — Jet-A diesel twin, single-lever digital engine controls, G1000 with GFC700 autopilot. Modern systems means cleaner training, fewer surprises, and a smoother bridge to airline-style operations.

Four ways
into the twin.

The FAR doesn't set a minimum hour requirement for most multi-engine ratings. The numbers below are baseline packages — we tailor to your experience and proficiency.

Track 01 · Add-On

Multi-Engine Add-On

3 days + checkride day · No FAA written

Add-on rating to an existing Private or Commercial certificate. No knowledge test, no minimum time — you just have to demonstrate proficiency. Most pilots reach checkride-ready in 8–12 hours.

  • Up to 8 hours dual instruction in the DA42-VI
  • Use of the Redbird AATD simulator
  • 3 hours of aircraft for the checkride
  • Already instrument-rated? Most pilots add multi-instrument privileges

Track 02 · CPL Initial

Commercial Multi-Engine Initial

10 days + checkride day · CMEL Initial

For pilots with a Private + Instrument and 250 hours total time who want to earn commercial privileges in a twin. Most efficient path if your end goal is the airlines — counts toward the 50 hours of multi for ATP.

  • Up to 35 hours dual instruction in the DA42-VI
  • Use of the Redbird AATD simulator
  • Aircraft use for the checkride
  • Add Commercial Single-Engine afterward in ~6 hours

Track 03 · Instructor

Multi-Engine Instructor

3 days + checkride day · MEI

FAR 61.183(j) requires 15 hours PIC in the same class. Already a single-engine CFI? You can finish in about 8 hours. Course assumes 15 PIC multi hours already — otherwise additional hours are added at the hourly rate.

  • Up to 8 hours dual instruction in the DA42-VI
  • Use of the Redbird AATD simulator
  • 3 hours of aircraft for the checkride
  • Hold CFII? You automatically pick up multi-instrument instructing

Track 04 · ATP Prep

Accelerated ATP Checkride Prep

3 days · ATP CTP must be complete

Finish-up training for the Airline Transport Pilot practical test. You've already done the ATP CTP and passed the knowledge test — we polish you for the ride.

  • Up to 6 hours dual instruction in the DA42-VI
  • Use of the Redbird AATD simulator
  • Aircraft use for the checkride
  • Not IFR current? Ask about an IPC before the course

The Aircraft

Diamond DA42-VI.

Modern, twin-diesel, single-lever digital engine control. The aircraft pilots fly when they want a clean transition into PT6-style turbine operations. G1000 panel, GFC700 autopilot, and a Redbird AATD configured to the same DA42 controls and avionics.

What's out.

Always Included

  • Dual instruction in the aircraft for the hours listed in each course
  • Aircraft rental during the checkride
  • Dedicated instruction from experienced Multi-Engine Instructors
  • Option to bring your own twin — ask for a quote
  • Bring-a-friend savings options

Renter's Insurance

All pilots must carry an active non-owned renter's policy with at least $10,000 hull coverage.

We recommend Starr Gate — about $60 for a month of $25,000 hull coverage, which is plenty for the duration of multi training.

Payment Schedule

  • 50% due at reservation to lock the slot and aircraft
  • Remaining balance due at course start
  • Examiner fee due at the start of the checkride, paid in cash
DPE Availability

Weeks.
Not months.

The biggest reason "accelerated" stops being accelerated isn't instruction — it's checkrides. At CRAFT, DPE availability is built into the planning process for every program. Exact timing varies, but checkrides are typically scheduled in weeks, not months.

"Train. Test. Finish."

Accelerated training isn't about rushing. It's about removing the biggest bottleneck in the system.
